That is £2 a bet: £1 to win and £1 to place. You get paid on the place part if the horse finishes in the places, and on both if it wins.
🎯The placers pay for the rest
Most selections lose. About 41% place, often at 10/1 to 33/1, and those returns more than cover the losers.
The rule
A horse is selected when v8's chance of winning and its chance of finishing in the places say the each way bet is worth at least 5% more than it costs, even at a price 15% worse than we show. Up to 33/1. Nobody picks them by hand.

- Judge it by the month, not the day. In testing 28 of 36 months were up, and losing runs of 20 bets happened. Quiet days are part of it.
